See how home security has changed

No matter what, technology is constantly changing, and that includes home security equipment. With smart home automation growing in popularity, this technology is changing faster than ever before. But, where did it all start?

Surprisingly, home security was introduced during the Stone Age. Obviously, a lot has changed. Here are some products that have changed the most. Take a look at how far home security has come.

Doorbell

Old – A simple, yet necessary contraption, the doorbell has been around much longer than you might think.Even though doorbells have a long history, they weren’t common until the 1900s. Since its invention in the 1800s, doorbells have evolved. In the beginning, there were door-knockers and small bells. This grew into a loud electric buzzer, and eventually turned into the traditional doorbells we know today.

New – Now, doorbells are at its most high-tech. The newest doorbells are equipped with cameras, so we don’t have to leave the couch to see who is at the door. A lazy person’s dream, these video doorbells are actually convenient for anyone. With the doorbell cam, there is no more waiting around for packages since you can check on the doorstep from anywhere. Doorbells are more convenient than ever.

Security Cameras

Old – Security cameras were not originally designed to protect homes. The first security camera was invented in 1942 in Germany to observe V2 rockets. However, it wasn’t until the 1960s that security cameras began to show up in public places. The first security camera was used in a bank, and then transitioned to retail and homes.

New – Since its invention, video monitoring has come a long way. There are roughly 25 million cameras all throughout the world. Since being moved into homes, cameras deter 67% of burglaries. Now, you can monitor your home from anywhere. This product is always evolving, and gets better with time.

Smoke Alarms

Old – Surprisingly, smoke alarms have a long history. First developed in 1922, smoke alarms finalized development in the early 1940s. The inventors found that smoke alarms significantly decreased deaths resulting from home fires. By 1971, smoke alarms officially replaced ancient smoke detectors.

New – Monitoring for fire is easier than ever. FireFighter is a product that can monitor all smoke alarms in the house at one time. No matter where you might be, this device is watching the house and will report if any fire or smoke is detected.

Just like the rest of technology, home security is constantly changing and evolving to create better products. Enjoy peace of mind and rest easy.
